Unusual Whitefriars Design Trial Early No Date Cane Paperweight - designed by Geoffrey Baxter.
This design trial piece could have been part of a trial for either the introduction of date canes into Whitefriars paperweights or indeed just for variations on early paperweights. Using early canes, this paperweight has no date cane and no monk cane which is unusual. Being part of a design trial for Baxter this is a very special piece.
Bought from the private Collection of Earnest Miller, father of Stuart Miller (Whitefriars Assistant to the Chief of Design Geoffrey Baxter) along with a number of other trial pieces, friggers and one-off Experimental Pieces of Whitefriars Glass.
Stuarts father Earnest took a keen interest in Stuarts work and amassed a large collection of rare and experimental pieces which Geoffrey Baxter would give to Stuart from his office or the design department at Whitefriars, to take home to his father to add to his collection.
This would have been part of a design trial and is a real historical gem amongst whitefriars paperweights.
A stunning and beautiful design which adds quality and rarity to any display.
Good condition with no obvious damage, I am happy to inspect the paperweight with a strong magnifying glass to check for any microscopic marks which are not visible to the human eye upon request.
Approximately 3 inches Diameter.
Sure to be the envy of any paperweight collection.
