Whitefriars Pre-production Trial Jubilee Paperweight Millefiori Button Base - designed by Geoffrey Baxter.

Bought from the private Collection of Earnest Miller, father of Stuart Miller (Whitefriars Assistant to the Chief of Design Geoffrey Baxter) along with a number of other trial pieces, friggers and one-off Experimental Pieces of Whitefriars Glass.
 
Stuarts father Earnest took a keen interest in Stuarts work and amassed a large collection of rare and experimental pieces which Geoffrey Baxter would give to Stuart from his office or the design department at Whitefriars, to take home to his father to add to his collection.

This would have been part of a design trial that was never put into production, a real gem amongst whitefriars paperweights. 
 
This design was eventually produced as a limited edition and each paperweight was numbered on the base, however this button piece is just a part of the process and never made it's way into a finished paperweight, possibly a rejected design setup or rejected due to flaws or instability in the Millefiori.
 
An interesting piece and talking point which shows the inner workings of a Whitefriars paperweight and an insight into the manufacturing process.
